Sachem School District’s flagrant abuse of children’s health and parents’ rights MUST STOP
Why is school Principal Gemma Salvia making medical decisions she is not trained or licensed to make in New York?
What gives Anthony N. Donatelli, MD the authority to override the decisions of other physicians, especially for patients Donatelli has never treated?
Just like NY law says the treating physician’s judgment should prevail.
This is what New York Law (NY Public Health Law Sec. 2164 (8) says about who issues a medical exemption from vaccine mandates:
“If any physician licensed to practice medicine in this state certifies that such immunization may be detrimental to a child's health, the requirements of this section shall be inapplicable until such immunization is found no longer to be detrimental to the child's health.”
A 12-year-old student was thrown out of school on 12/6/23 after 3 medical exemptions issued by physicians who had treated the child were rejected by Anthony N. Donatelli, MD, the district’s consulting physician who never treated or examined the child. Donatelli is notorious for rescinding medical exemptions issued by children’s treating physicians in his capacity as a consultant at several Long Island school districts.
Principal Gemma Salvia chose to reject the medical judgment of the child's 3 treating physicians and accept Donatelli’s refusal to renew the medical exemption that had been in place for 8 years. The student had previously been granted medical exemptions for her Autoimmune Encephalitis condition since kindergarten. There is also a Federal case pending for her vaccine injury that occurred at age 4.
The child was under review for documentation submitted for over 2 months and the district refused to provide any form of education to her. During that time, the child experienced irreparable psychological harm due to isolation.
She was recently approved for a "temporary medical exemption" based on some lab findings and is able to return to school BUT needs long term protection for her chronic medical condition.
